Description

Alex Delaware is back! And in Jonathan Kellerman's riveting and ingenious new novel, Monster, he faces one of the most grisly and baffling mysteries of his career: How can a nonfunctional psychotic locked up in a supposedly secure institution for homicidal madmen predict brutal murders in the outside world? Delaware and his friend and partner Detective Milo Sturgis must penetrate this enigma in order to stop the horrific killings.A marginal actor is found dead in a car trunk, sawn in half. Months later, a psychologist at a hospital for the criminally insane is discovered murdered and mutilated in a tantalizingly similar way. When reports of an inmate's incoherent ramblings begin to make frightening sense as predictions of yet more slayings, Delaware and Sturgis are drawn into a web of family secrets, vengeance, and manipulation--both inside the asylum and on the streets of L.A., where death, drugs, and sex are marketed as commodities. The climactic discovery they make as they race to prevent more killings gives fresh and terrifying meaning to the concept of monstrosity. With Monster's incomparably deft characterizations and dazzlingly dark plot twists, Jonathan Kellerman further enhances his literary position as master of the psychological thriller.

As good as Kellerman gets. . . . And, no.living author does this type of tale better?! When I want adventure, historic settings with historic accuracy, romance and armed valor, heroism and honor ---- sometimes honor ---- I go to Cornwell. However, NO writer does big city, 21st century murder, mayhem & mystery as well as Kellerman! This is my fourth trip through all of Kellerman's Milo/Delaware work since several years after first reading When the Bough Breaks.... in the late 1980s. (Yep! Milo just comes first with me. That's the way it is.) Of course, I always buy his books as soon as available ----- and with Kindle I can now pace the floor and become frustratingly difficult to live with...... as the date for the release of the book I pre-ordered approaches! My reading binges..... Christie gets them, Stout gets them, Cornwell gets them. 25 years ago I never thought I'd be permanently add anyone else ..... Kellerman gets them! Not all of his works are 5-star favorites..... but, all are literate and interesting. And, most ARE 5-Star favorites...... How many authors turning out an average one novel per year deserve that!? I find....... very few!
