This is one of those hidden gems of the Pokemon universe. I've been a fan of the dubbed anime ever since it started, and I was surprised that they never released a "score" soundtrack with the background music. Eventually, I noticed this Japanese CD, bought it immediately, and I couldn't be more happy with it! The first track is the Japanese anime opening song, which is actually pretty good, and the rest of the tracks are the background music from the anime just as they were used.Having said that, I do have some thoughts... As great as this CD is, I feel it is my duty to everyone out there to point out a few little flaws that don't really affect my enjoyment, but may affect other people. After each track is a mildly annoying interjection by the Japanese Pokedex that goes on for a good 30 seconds (depending on the track), but it's simple enough to push the "next track" button (provided you're not driving; you'll end up doing it about every three minutes) or to burn an "edited" copy with all of that cut. Plus, in the ether between tracks 1 & 2 is an extremely annoying exchange between the Japanese Ash & Pikachu. Again, simple to remedy but annoying nonetheless. For me, the biggest problem with this CD is that there is a very small handful of songs that didn't make it onto this disc. Remember that music that was used inside the gyms in the GB game as well as the anime? It's gone. The dramatic music in the first episode as Ash & Pikachu are biking away from the Spearow? Gone. Again, not a crucial factor, but if you just so happen to really like those songs, it kind of [is bad] that they weren't included.Well, those are the ups-and-downs of this CD in my view. I tried to be very thorough so anyone reading this can make their own judgment. Personally, I would advise people who like the background music in the anime to go ahead and buy this disc despite the flaws. If you like the music, you should be able to tolerate the aforementioned quirks with relative ease.
