Description

For The Ultimate Monster Guide, Doctor Who historian Justin Richards has completely revised and updated entries from his first three bestselling reference books - and included a wealth of new material from both the current and the classic series - to create the most comprehensive guide to the Doctor's enemies ever published. From Adipose and Autons to Zarbi and Zygons, this guide tells you everything you need to know about the many dastardly creatures the Doctor has fought over the 46 years since he first appeared on television. Lavishly illustrated with photos and artwork throughout, The Ultimate Monster Guide is essential reading for all travellers in time and space!

This book is great! Growing up watching Doctor Who reruns during the late 80's and early 90's, I was quite happy to find a book that includes so many of the monsters and aliens from the original series in addition to those in the more recent series. The wide range of entries gives a good feel of the continuity of the first ten incarnations of the Doctor (this edition doesn't include the 11th Doctor), especially the entries about creatures which the Doctor faces multiple times. Thus it is informative for old and new fans alike. However, even with all the little nuggets of knowledge, I wish the entries were more in depth. I especially felt the section about the Master was far too brief - granted, he appeared in so many episodes that it could easily get to be a rather lengthy entry, and references to him are made in other entries; but as such an important foe of the Doctor's, I think he deserves more thorough exploration. The two entries that are most extensive are, of course, about the Cybermen and Daleks. I like how they give brief descriptions of each episode in which these foes appear. All in all, this book is a must have for all Doctor Who fans interested in learning more about the Doctor and his companions through their many diverse encounters with all the strange, strange creatures.
